Having added a rear outfeed table I needed to get rid of the OEM Jet Splitter/guard. Well, not the guard but the splitter. With the outfeed table it was going to be way too much trouble to install and remove the guard/splitter assembly and my fear was I was going to remove it and leave it off.

Enter the Biesemeyer removable splitter. Biesemeyer had recently released a version of their splitter for the Jet contractors saw and it looked like just what I wanted.

INSTALLATION:

The first thing you have to do is unplug the saw and remove the blade. Next remove the stock splitter and brackets.

Next the instructions tell you to insert the long bolt through the threaded hole which was used to connect the old bracket. Wait, what friggin threaded hole. the two bolts on the bottom wont allow it to line up.

Ahh, when they said remove the brackets they meant all the hardware. I didn't remove the threaded rod that the rear of the splitter assembly was mounted to. You can see in the pic above the end of the still installed threaded rod. Once that was removed I could do what the instructions said.

With the new Biesemeyer receiver assembly installed, I then installed the blade and aligned the splitter to the blade and tightened everything down.

I wish there was a better way of mounting the splitter, using one bolt and nut which requires you to have one hand inside the saw and the other behind it in order to tighten is a pain, especially with an outfeed table.

In the pic above you can see that after you get the splitter aligned, you install a horizontal bar which rests on the trunion bars which provides two more points of contact for the reciever assembly and locks it in place.
OPERATION:
I haven't actually used it yet but when I do I'll update this part. This splitter must be used with full kerf, 1/8" blades, my new blades arrive in 3 days. As for the ease of installing/removing the splitter, it is simple, just pull on that knob above and remove the splitter.

** 21 Dec 2002 ** MODIFICATION

Ever since I started using this splitter I had to discontinue the use of the blade guard. I just modified the splitter to accept the blade guard. Actually the only modification to the actual splitter is that I used different screws. What I did was remove the guard from the OEM Jet splitter assembly. I then cut the pivot bar in hald, drilled a couple of holes, and mounted it with longer pawl screws.

In this pic you see the guard installed.

And here with it flipped up out of the way.

It seems to work fine but I havent used it much. I'll update this after i finish my Miter Station
