Shaker Style Lamp Tables
Woodsmith No. 101

For my first furniture project I decided on a pair of lamp tables for my oldest daughter. The tabletops are cherry and the apron and legs are white birch.

Joinery is mortise and tennon. I made the mortises with my Shop Fox Mortiser and the tennons on my table saw using my Jet tennoning jig.

The tops are attached to the base utilizing hardwood "L" brackets set into a dado'd slot on the inside of the apron.

The legs are laminated to form a 1.5" leg and then tapered utilizing an inexpensive aluminum tapering jig.

Finish: The cherry tops have one coat of natural Watco and about 4 coats of Minwax wipe-on poly. I also gave them about 4 hours each of exposure to the sun before finishing.

The apron and legs are finished with 50/50 Pumpkin and White milk paint from The Old Fashoned Milk Paint Company and sealed with a clear latex poly.
